Mogens Herman HansenFBA (20 August 1940 – 22 June 2024) was a Danishclassical philologist andclassical demographer who was one of the leading scholars inAthenian Democracy and thePolis.[1]
Hansen finished his masters atUniversity of Copenhagen in 1967. The following year he was engaged to work at the same university. He has written many books about theAthenian Democracy. From 1993 to 2005 he was the director of the Copenhagen Polis Centre.[2]
Hansen was visiting fellow at theUniversity of Melbourne,University of British Columbia,Wolfson College (University of Cambridge),Princeton University, andChurchill College (Cambridge). Hansen was a member of the RoyalDanish Academy of Sciences, byGerman Archaeological Institute and theBritish Academy.
In June 2010, Hansen retired after 40 years atCopenhagen University. He died on 22 June 2024, at the age of 83.[3][4]
