Ma'ale Gamla (Hebrew:מַעֲלֵה גַּמְלָא) is anIsraeli settlement andmoshav located in the west part of theGolan Heights, under the administration ofIsrael. It falls under the municipal jurisdiction ofGolan Regional Council. In 2022 it had a population of 596.[1]
The international community considers Israeli settlements in the Golan Heightsillegal under international law, but the United States and the Israeli government dispute this.[2][3]
The moshav was built in 1975 and was named after the ancient town ofGamla, destroyed in the course of theJewish–Roman war in the 1st century CE, and believed to be the ruin ofTell es Salam, 6km to the west.[4]
