Luca Marinelli (born 22 October 1984) is an Italian actor.

He is best known for the roles of Mattia inThe Solitude of Prime Numbers (2010), Guido inEvery Blessed Day (2012), Andrea inThe Great Beauty (2013), Cesare inDon't Be Bad (2015), The Gipsy inThey Call Me Jeeg (2016), thetitle character ofMartin Eden (2019), Nicky inThe Old Guard (2020), and thetitle character ofDiabolik (2021).

Marinelli is set to play Neil inHideo Kojima's 2025 videogameDeath Stranding 2: On the Beach, his first videogame role, alongside his wife Alissa, who is also set to star in the title.

Biography

Born in Rome, Marinelli is the son of actor and voice actorEugenio Marinelli [it], and the nephew of actress and voice actressSonia Scotti [it]. He enrolled at theSilvio D'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2009.[1] Occasionally appearing on stage since 2006, hisbreakout role was Mattia, the leading character in theSaverio Costanzo's 2010 drama filmThe Solitude of Prime Numbers.[1] In 2013 he was appointedEFP Shooting Star at theBerlin International Film Festival for his performance inPaolo Virzì'sEvery Blessed Day.[2] Marinelli also played a supporting role in the Academy Award-winning dramaThe Great Beauty byPaolo Sorrentino.

For his role of Cesare inClaudio Caligari's final filmDon't Be Bad, he won the Pasinetti Award for Best Actor at the72nd Venice International Film Festival.

In 2016 he won theNastro d'Argento andDavid di Donatello for Best Supporting Actor forThey Call Me Jeeg, and in 2019 he won theVolpi Cup for Best Actor for his portrayal of the titular characterMartin Eden at the76th Venice International Film Festival.[3] He also played the antagonist Primo in the 2018 TV seriesTrust, and starred as Nicky in theNetflix filmThe Old Guard. In 2018 he portrayed the Italian singer-songwriterFabrizio De André inFabrizio De André: Principe libero.

He starred asDiabolik in the2021 film based on the comics series.[4][5]

In 2022, he plays Pietro Guasti inThe Eight Mountains (Italian:Le otto montagne) by Felix Van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch, based onthe novel of the same name byPaolo Cognetti.[citation needed]

In 2025, it was announced that he and his wife,Alissa Jung, will provide their voice and likeness in the upcoming game,Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. He is set to play the characterNeil.[6]
