Lin Ruo(Chinese:林若;pinyin:Lín Ruò; July 19, 1924 – October 7, 2012) was a Chinese politician who served asParty Committee Secretary ofGuangdong Province.[1]

Biography

Lin was a native ofChao'an District,Chaozhou City, Guangdong. He joined theChinese Communist Party (CCP) in May 1945. In July 1945, he enrolled in theSun Yat-sen University School of Literature. In 1947, he traveled to theDong River guerilla warfare region to provide political guidance.[2]

In March 1950, he was named the head of the CCP GuangdongPearl River Local Committee Policy Research Office Group, as well as local positions inZhongshan andDongguan. In 1952, he was named party committee secretary of Dongguan. Lin was attacked during theCultural Revolution.[3]

In February 1971, he was named to theZhenjiang local party committee, and in 1973 became the deputy party secretary and deputyRevolutionary Committee director of theNanfang Daily newspaper. In 1975, Lin became theGuangzhou municipal party committee first secretary, and in 1982 transferred to become the Guangdong provincial party committee first secretary.[4]

From 1985 to 1991, Lin served as the Guangdong provincial party committee secretary.[4] From 1990 through December 1996, he served as chairman and party group secretary of the Guangdong provincial people's congress standing committee. He retired in September 2004.[5]

Lin died on October 7, 2012, in Guangzhou following an illness.[6]

Lin Ruo was a delegate to eachNational Congress of the Chinese Communist Party from the 12th through the17th, a member of the12th and13thCentral Committees of the Chinese Communist Party, and a delegate to the7th and8thNational People's Congresses.[7][1]
