Lee Jun-ho (Korean이준호; born January 25, 1990), known mononymously asJunho, is a South Korean singer and actor. He is a member of the South Koreanboy band2PM. Lee made his acting debut in the filmCold Eyes (2013) and has since starred inTwenty (2015) and notable television series such asGood Manager (2017),Rain or Shine (2017–2018), andKing the Land (2023). His performance inThe Red Sleeve (2021) earned him theBaeksang Arts Award for Best Actor. As a solo artist, Lee has released twostudio albums, onecompilation album and eightextended plays, achieving significant success in Japan.

Early life and education

In 2006, Lee first gained public attention when he wonSuperstar Survival. The show started with twelve teenage competitors and, as the weeks went on, they were eliminated one by one until three were left. The process followed a similar style to that of the reality showSurvivor. Lee signed a contract withJYP Entertainment after winning the contest, placing first out of 6,500 competitors. Future 2PM bandmatesTaecyeon andChansung also competed.[2]

Lee participated in an undergraduate programme atHowon University located in Gunsan, South Korea, with his bandmatesChansung andWooyoung.[3][4] Furthermore, he, alongside Chansung, attained a master's degree incinematography fromSejong University.[5]

Career

2008–2009: Debut with2PM

In 2008, he participated inMnet's showHot Blood Men[6] a program that chronicles the rigorous training of thirteen aspiring trainees, all vying for a coveted spot in the boy bandOne Day. This initiative ultimately led to the formation of two distinct boy bands, namely2AM and2PM.

Half a year following the televised airing ofHot Blood, the group2PM made their debut with the release of their inaugural single10 Out of 10 from their firstEP titled Hottest Time of the Day.[7] However it was their second EP,2:00PM Time For Change, that propelled them to mainstream success in Korean music, solidifying their meteoric rise.

Despite the group's achievements, Lee has spoken about his struggles with lack of opportunities and recognition early in his career. He shared that he was often alone in the dormitory while the other members were busy with their scheduled activities. Lee also believed that, despite his interest in acting,JYP Entertainment had no intention of letting him pursue it.[8]

Solo activities

In 2013, Lee made his initial foray as asolo artist in Japan with the release of his maiden solo EP,Kimi no Koe, for which he undertook the roles of producer, composer, andlyricist across all the tracks.[9] This album achieved the topmost position onTower Records' daily charts, while also ranking third onOricon's daily and weekly charts.[10][11] Commencing on July 9, Lee embarked upon his inaugural solo tour titledKimi no Koe, encompassing 12 shows across 5 cities and culminating on August 29 inTokyo.[12][13]

On July 9, 2014, Lee unveiled his second self-penned Japanese EP,Feel.[14]Feel promptly ascended to the summit ofOricon's daily album chart on the very day of its launch and ranked second on the weekly charts.[15][16] On July 3, Lee embarked upon his second independent Japanese tour named Feel, a journey which encompassed 12 shows across five cities attracting 50,000 fans. The final show at theNippon Budokan on August 13 was broadcast live in 38 theatres across 23 prefectures in Japan.[17][18]

On July 15, 2015, Lee introduced his third Japanese EP, titledSo Good. This album secured third place on Oricon's weekly albums chart, with first week sales exceeding 40,000 copies.[19] It received praise, signifying Lee's growth into a mature artist, with emotional tracks like "Good Life" and "Pressure," giving a glimpse into his inner life.[20] Concurrently, he embarked upon his 2015 Japan tour namedLast Night, which spanned across seven distinct cities, commencing on July 7 in Tokyo.[21]A total of 15 shows, including two performances at theYokohama Arena and theWorld Memorial Hall each, attracted over 55,000 fans. The final show at the World Memorial Hall on August 6 was also broadcast live in 41 theatres across 32 cities nationwide.[22]

In September, he unveiled his inaugural album in Korea, a distinctive compilation titledOne.[23] Within this album were Korean renditions of eleven previously released self-composed Japanese tracks.[24] In order to promote the title track "Fire," Lee made his first solo appearances on South Koreanmusic shows includingM Countdown,Music Bank,Show! Music Core andInkigayo.[25] His solo concert"Last Night," hosted at theOlympic Hall in Olympic Park, Seoul, spanned from September 19 to the 20th.[26]

In 2016, Lee presented his fourth Japanese EP,DSMN. The album achieved supremacy on both Oricon and Tower Records' daily albums charts, becoming Lee's first release to achieve that feat.[27] It also ranked second on Oricon's weekly albums chart.[28] Furthermore, the pre-released single "DSMN" garnered notable popularity on Japan's ringtone platform.[29] His fourth Japanese tour, titledHyper, reached its culmination with two performances at theYoyogi National Gymnasium on August 24 and 25. Lee was commended for producing the concert including the setlist, opening video, costume concept and stage sound and lighting.[30][31] On December 3 and 4, Lee orchestrated a special encore concert titled"Last Hyper Night" at theNippon Budokan, with 20,000 fans in attendance.[32] This event was accompanied by a live viewing experience throughout Japan.[33]

Progressing into 2017, Lee presented his fifth Japanese EP,2017 S/S, in July.[34] It ranked second on Oricon's weekly albums chart.[35]Tower Records named it the second best selling Japanese release of 2017 by a Korean artist.[36] From July through August, he embarked on his fifth Japanese tour,2017 S/S.[37] In September, his maiden Korean EP titledCanvas emerged, serving as his official introduction to the Korean music industry as a solo performer.[38] The release was accompanied by music videos for tracks "Fine," which Lee dedicated to his cat Rambo's passing away, "Bye Bye" featuring Cheeze and the title track "Canvas."[39]

In January 2018, Lee premiered his sixth Japanese EP,Winter Sleep, diverging from the summer releases of his first five EPs, which had earned him the moniker"Lee Natsu" (Lee Summer).[40] The title track"Winter Sleep" was released in both Korean and Japanese.[41] The release topped Oricon's daily albums chart and Tower Record's weekly albums chart while peaking at 3 on Oricon's weekly albums chart.[42][43] Concurrently, Lee initiated his inaugural solo winter tour in Japan, titledWinter Special, encompassing nine stops across five cities, concluding with two shows at theNippon Budokan on February 23 and 24.[44] On July 11, Lee unveiled his seventh Japanese EP,Souzou . This release promptly claimed the No. 1 position on Oricon's daily albums chart, boasting an estimated sale of 27,270 units.[45] It also became Lee's first release to top Oricon's weekly albums chart.[46] His summer solo tour "Flashlight" commenced in late June in Nagoya and concluded with shows at theNippon Budokan on August 20 and 21 and theOsaka Castle Hall on September 5.[47] It featured twelve performances across five cities in Japan, with a show on September 4 at the Osaka Castle Hall getting cancelled due to the effects ofTyphoon Jebi.[48] On December 5 the same year, Lee introduced a Japanese compilation album titledJunho The Best featuring a collection of sixteen tracks.[49] Following this, from December 6 to 8, Lee graced the Nippon Budokan stage with a concert series of the same name.[50][51] In Tower Record's year-end list of best-selling Japanese albums by Korean artists,Souzou andWinter Sleep ranked 6th and 10th, respectively. Lee was the only solo artist and the only artist with multiple entries in the top 10.[52]

In January 2019, Lee unveiled his second Korean compilation album titledTwo.[53] In March, he brought the"Junho The Best" concert series to South Korea with two shows at theOlympic Hall inSeoul.[54]

In 2022, Lee orchestrated a fan concert under the banner ofBefore Midnight, spanning from August 12 to 14 in Korea at theSK Olympic Handball Gymnasium, with further dates on August 20 and 21 in Japan at theNippon Budokan.[55] The final show on August 21 was broadcast live on platforms such as Stagecrowd and Streaming+ and in theatres throughout Japan. It marked the 100th solo concert of Lee's career.[56]

After filmingKing the Land, Lee immediately launched into a concert arena Tour in Japan, called"The Day We Meet Again" (Mata Aeru Hi). Two performances were held in each of 3 cities (Yokohama,Kobe andNagoya); 6 shows in all, starting on July 22 & 23 in Yokohama at thePia Arena. The last show in Nagoya at theNippon Gaishi Hall on August 27 was streamed live online and was also broadcast live in nineCGV theatres for Korean fans. These concerts marked his 10-year anniversary since debut as a solo artist.[57] He also released a special Japanese single titled "Can I" to commemorate the occasion.[58]

On January 13 and 14, 2024, Lee held concerts at theJamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul as an extension of"The Day We Meet Again" tour.[59] It was screened in 50CGV theatres nationwide in July 2024 to mark the 11th anniversary of his debut as a solo artist.[60]On January 17, Lee released the digital single "When We Meet Again," which inspired the concert's title and served as its opening performance. It was the Korean version of the trackMata Aeruhi from his JapaneseEP2017 S/S.[61]Billboard named it the 17th bestK-pop song of the year in its first-half review of 2024.[62]

In early 2025, Lee kicked off a fan concert tour titledMidnight Sun, with two shows on January 25 and 26 at theInspire Arena in South Korea.[63] The Japan leg scheduled on February 9 and 10 at theTokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium attracted over 18,000 fans.[64]Further performances were organised inTaipei on February 23 and 24 at theNTU Sports Center.The tour's finale with two shows at theVibra São Paulo in Brazil, on March 1 and 2, marked Lee's first solo concerts outsideAsia.[65]

In March, it was announced that Lee would leaveJYP Entertainment after his contract expires on April 15, following seventeen years with the company. However, the label plans to continue overseeing Lee's solo activities in Japan.[66] In April, it was revealed that Lee planned on establishing a one-person agency with preparations expected to be completed by mid-May.[67]

Acting career

In 2013, Lee made his film debut in the action thrillerCold Eyes, where he impressed viewers with his acting.[68][69][70] Later, he revealed that he went to the audition for the film wearing a cast right after receiving shoulder surgery.[71]

In 2015, Lee featured in martial arts period dramaMemories of the Sword.[72] He next starred alongsideKim Woo-bin andKang Ha-neul in the coming-of-age filmTwenty as an aspiring cartoonist who is forced to take on several part-time jobs after his family goes bankrupt.[73][74][75]

In 2016, Lee had a supporting role as a junior lawyer in tvN's thrillerMemory.[76]

In 2017, Lee starred in the hit office comedy dramaGood Manager.[77] He was praised for his villainous acting in the drama as the arrogant director of finances and won the Excellence Award for an actor in a mid-length drama at theKBS Drama Awards, marking his first acting accolade.[78][79] The same year, Junho landed his first lead role in JTBC's romantic melodrama seriesRain or Shine.[80] He portrayed a psychologically scarred and physically traumatized survivor of a fatal incident, losing over 7 kg to fit the role.[81][82]

In 2018, Lee was cast in his first Japanese movieRose and Tulip, written by popular manga artistAkiko Higashimura, in which he played a double role.[83] He was then cast in the SBS romance comedy dramaWok of Love, playing a star chef.[84] The same year, he was cast in the historical comedy filmHomme Fatale.[85][86]

In 2019, Lee starred in the legal dramaConfession as a lawyer trying to save hiswrongly convicted father on death row.[87] He was praised for his portrayal of a complex character "who doesn't stand out."[88]

In November 2021, after completing his mandatory military service, he starred in the historical romance dramaThe Red Sleeve, playing the role ofCrown Prince Yi San, alongsideLee Se-young asRoyal Consort Uibin Seong. The drama became a success, sweeping 8 awards at the2021 MBC Drama Awards, with him getting Top Excellence Award.[89] Lee was the first idol-actor to win Best Actor at 2022's Korea PD Awards, and also won the awards forMost Popular Actor andBest Actor – Television at the58th Baeksang Arts Awards, becoming the firstidol to win the latter.[90] Lee was also the first idol-actor to win Top Excellence Award, Actor in a miniseries at the 2022APAN Star Awards and first-idol actor to win Grand Prize (Daesang) for Actor of the year at the 2022Asia Artist Awards.[91] In an interview onYou Quiz on the Block, Lee revealed that he received around 100 scripts following the success of The Red Sleeve.[92]

In 2023, Lee starred in the romantic-comedy dramaKing the Land alongsideIm Yoon-ah.[93] Lee shared that he wanted to choose a project with a different atmosphere from what he had done previously and something that would be an easy watch.[94]King the Land garnered significant international attention, becoming the most-watched non-English show onNetflix during its broadcasting run and accumulating the most viewed hours among all shows in the second half of 2023.[95][96] Lee became the first idol-actor to win the Grand Prize at theAPAN Star Awards and retained the Grand Prize for Actor of the Year at theAsia Artist Awards.[97][98] In the same year, Lee madecameo appearances inCelebrity, helmed byConfession's director Kim Cheol-kyu andMy Dearest, starringNamkoong Min, his co-star fromGood Manager.[99]

In 2024, he was cast as the lead in the Netflix superhero dramaCashero.[100]

In 2025, Lee was cast as the lead in the tvN dramaTyphoon Company set during the1997 financial crisis alongsideKim Min-ha.[101]

Composition

As of October 2019, Lee boasts a remarkable tally of 101 compositions accredited by theKorea Music Copyright Association, positioning seventh among the top ten idols with the most copyrighted songs.[102] Besides producing all the tracks on his solo releases, Lee has also composed many songs for2PM.

Lee's initial songwriting credit on a 2PM album materialized with "Give it to Me" in 2011, found within their second studio album,Hands Up. His inaugural contribution to a Japanese release transpired with "Kimi ga Ireba" (君がいれば; If You Are Here), a part of 2PM's fourth Japanese single album,Beautiful unveiled on June 6, 2012. Notably, this composition was also integrated into their second Japanese studio album,Legend of 2PM. "This is Love" and "Forever," two other tracks by Lee, were also part of the album.[103][104]

In 2012, Lee collaborated with actressKim So-eun on MBC's programMusic and Lyrics for the creation of the song "Sad Love". Crafted byKim So-eun and composed by Lee, this single garnered significant acclaim, promptly securing positions within the top 10 ranks of diverse music charts. It was further selected as the theme song for MBC's weekend drama,Feast of the Gods.[105] Lee's collaborative effort extended to a partnership withVanness Wu on the song "Undefeated" featured on the soundtrack of the Taiwanese dramaTi Amo Chocolate soundtrack.[106]

The composition "Move On," a collaborative work between Lee and fellow memberJang Wooyoung, emerged with 2PM's compilation album2PM Best: 2008–2011 in Korea, subsequently surging to the zenith of Japan's Recochoku Chart.[107] Lee also ventured into composing for Wooyoung's Korean debut EP,23, Male, Single contributing the track "Be With You".[108]

In 2013, Lee produced the tracks "Zero Point," "Love Song," and "Go Back" for 2PM"s albumGrown[109] He also composed and performed the songs "Just a Feeling" and "I'm In Love" included on the album's Grand Edition.[110][111]

In 2014, Lee contributed the track "I want you" for 2PM's third Japanese albumGenesis of 2PM.[112] "Love Is True," a melodious creation graced by the vocals of Lee andNichkhun, found its place in the Grand Edition of 2PM's Korean albumGo Crazy![113]

In 2015, Lee produced the tune "365" for 2PM's ninth Japanese single albumGuilty Love.[114] This composition was also included in the group's fourth Japanese studio album2PM of 2PM. "Everything" and "Burning Love," two other tracks by Lee, were also part of the release.[115][116] For 2PM's fifth Korean album titledNo.5, he contributed the track titled Nobody Else which was described byBillboard as a "sensual cut with surging synths and slick harmonies."[117]He produced a track titledChikai No Christmas on a B-version of2PM's tenth Japanese single album Higher.[118] He also performed and composed a track named "So Many Girls" for his version of the release.[119]

In 2016, Lee contributed the tracks "Issyoni Sugoshita Jikan" (Time Spent Together) and "Set Me Free" for 2PM's fifth Japanese albumGalaxy of 2PM.[120][121] Another notable musical accomplishment came in the form of "Versus," a collaborative effort by Lee andHwang Chan-sung, which he penned and recorded for the album's limited edition.[122]

Ambassadorship

In 2012, Lee was appointed as the honorary ambassador of the 24 Hour Famine Program hosted byWorld Vision.[123]

In May 2014, Lee was selected as a model for South Koreaneyewear brand Look Optical.[124]

In August, 2021, Lee and bandmateChansung were appointed as models forDongwon Tuna. They featured in a commercial styled as the debut music video of a rookie project group named "Team Chichi."[125] In October, Lee was selected as the face of French luxury retailerL'Occitane's '2021 Holiday Magic Collection.'[126] He was also chosen as the model for South Korean wellness & nutrition brand Paperbag.[127] In November, Lee was appointed as a model by South Koreanathleisure brand Xexymix.[128]

In February 2022, Lee was selected as a model forSubway's "Better Choice" advertisement campaign.[129] He was also chosen as a model forDomino's Korea alongsideHyeri.[130] In March, he was appointed as the brand ambassador for South Koreanramyeon companyPaldo Bibimmen, and Belgian chocolate makerGodiva to celebrate its 10th anniversary in Korea.[131][132] In April, he was chosen by Daesang Life Science as a model for its protein brand My Meal.[133]In May, he was selected as the ambassaor for South Korean home and kitchen appliances makerCuckoo Electronics, a role he has continued in to the present day.[134] In July, Lee was chosen as a model byL'Occitane for its '2022 Verbena Summer Paradise' campaign.[135] In August, Lee was selected as a model forLotte Duty Free to promote international tourism.[136]As part of the promotion, he starred in a short drama titled LDF Original Series which was released onsocial media in November 2022.

In January 2023, he was appointed as an ambassador for Frenchluxury goods companyDior in South Korea.[137] In December, he was selected as a model by South Korean organic pet food manufacturer OSP for its brand Indigo Paw.[138]

In February 2024, Lee was selected as a model for South Korean outdoor apparel company Nepa, joiningAn Yu-jin as the brand's representative.[139] In April, Lee was appointed as the first Korean global ambassador for Swiss luxury watchmaker and jewellerPiaget.[140]He was also selected as the global ambassador for Korean cosmetic brand The Saem.[141]

In March 2025, Lee was appointed as the global ambassador for French luxurymenswear brandBerluti.[142]

Television show

In 2012, along with the2PM members, Lee participated inMBC'sGod of Victory, where they were pitted against the members ofShinhwa. Lee won the segment "Breaking Chopsticks With His Butt", as he was able to break 28 chopstick pairs with his rear end in under 15 seconds.[143]

In 2013, Junho's solo variety show titled2PM Junho's SAY YES -Friendship- was broadcast onTokyo MX. The show features Lee travelling across different places in Japan to make friends along with invited Japanese celebrities.[144]

In March 2025, Lee became the first Korean actor to appear onSBT'sThe Noite com Danilo Gentili, Brazil's premierlate-night talk show.[145]

Personal life

Military service

On May 30, 2019, Lee began hismilitary service as apublic service worker. Due to a severe shoulder injury he suffered in 2010 during an acrobatics practice and for which he underwent major surgery in 2012, he was judged unfit for active duty.[146] Lee was discharged on March 20, 2021.[147]

Health

In a 2014 interview, Lee revealed that while preparingacrobatics for2PM's comeback withI'll Be Back in 2010, he suffered a tornlabrum.Wooyoung eventually took over his parts in the choreography which negatively affected his mental health. He was unable to have surgery and shot the music video for the track a week after getting hurt, taking as many as 8 painkillers at once.[148] In November 2012, Lee suffered a back injury, during a rehearsal for 2PM's "What Time Is It?" concert tour inShanghai. However, Lee continued with the performance and participated in the entire tour.[149] Later, it was revealed that Lee had suffered a serious injury to his right shoulder during acrobatic practice and was diagnosed with a spinal fracture after surgery. Lee talked about how "his arm stopped listening," and the nerve damage worsened to the point that the pain radiated to his head.[148] Despite continued rehabilitation, a full recovery was not made and Lee was told that he may only be able to regain about 80% functionality in his arm. He was prescribed painkillers when involved in activities that strain his shoulder.[150]

In December 2013, Lee injured his index finger while filming an action scene on the set ofMemories of the Sword.[151]

In March 2022, JYP Entertainment announced that Lee had been diagnosed withCOVID-19.[152]

In February 2025, it was revealed that Lee had suffered a ligament injury to his left leg during a scheduled event and was receiving treatment.[153] He was relying on crutches at the airport during his departure for Japan.[154] Despite this, Lee completed the two scheduled shows for theJapanese leg of his Midnight Sun fan-concert tour by incorporating acane into his performances.[155]

Philanthropy

Since 2011, Lee has been associated withWorld Vision through sponsorship of children in Ethiopia and Ghana. In 2012, he was appointed as an ambassador and visited Ethiopia to meetelephantiasis patients and the children he was supporting, including a young child named Felmeta, who he referred to as"dongsaeng" (younger brother).[156] In November 2018, Lee took part in World Vision's 'Global 6K for Water' donation run, where he was reunited with Felmeta.[157]

In March 2020, Lee donated 30 million won to support socially vulnerable children suffering because of theCOVID-19 pandemic.[158] In June 2024, Lee joined the 'Honor Society,' a group of major donors exceeding 100 millionwon in contributions, organized by the Social Welfare Joint Fundraising Association, throughShinhan Financial Group's campaign.[159] In December, Lee donated 100 million won to theSamsung Medical Center to support the treatment of vulnerable children and adolescents.[160] In March 2025, Lee donated 100 million won to help children and residents affected by thewildfires inGyeongnam andNorth Gyeongsang.[161]

Building on Lee's goodwill, his fans have contributed to World Vision to mark various occasions, leading to what has been described as "a virtous cycle of artist and fandom."[162] During his visit toEthiopia, Lee was deeply moved by the lack of clean water available to Felmeta and other locals. In March 2015, fans from Korea, Japan and Thailand donated over 26 million won in three weeks to help install drinking water pumps.[163] In 2022, Lee'sfan club "DC Inside Lee Junho Gallery" donated 5 million won in commemoration of his birthday.[164] In 2025, it donated 12.5 million won to help support children in crisis, marking its sixth contribution since 2022.[162]

Real estate

In February 2019, Lee acquired two units in a luxury office building inCheongdam-dong,Seoul.[165]

In August 2024, it was reported that Lee had purchased a commercial building onApgujeong Rodeo Street inSinsa-dong,Seoul, back in March. The building previously owned by the late actressKang Soo-yeon was acquired through Lee's family corporation, JF Company, for a reported value of 17.5 billion won.[165]

Public image

In 2020, the title track of 2PM's 2015 album No.5, titled My House, climbed back to the top of multiple streaming charts as fancams of Lee's performance of the song became a belated sensation and went viral on Youtube.[166][167] Despite being in the military at the time, his popularity skyrocketed, and he earned the moniker "Urijib Junho" (My House Junho).[168][146]

From 2013 to 2018, Lee released anextended play and embarked on a concert tour in Japan every summer. He has thus earned the nickname"Lee Natsu" (Lee Summer) in the country.[169]

Lee is widely regarded among the bestidol turned actors with him being ranked first among all male idol-actors by a 2023 poll of entertainment insiders.[170] He is the only idol-actor to win Best Actor at theBaeksang Arts Awards and the Korea PD Awards, as well as the Grand Prize for Actor of the Year at theAsia Artist Awards and theAPAN Star Awards.[98][171][97] Lee has been cited as a role model by many younger idols and actors includingJinyoung,Dahyun,Kang Daniel andKim Jae-won.[172][173][174][175][176]
