Jon Wertheim

L. Jonathan Wertheim (born 1970 inBloomington, Indiana)[1] is an American sports journalist and author. He is a senior writer forSports Illustrated magazine and has been part of the full-time SI writing staff since 1997[2] He has coveredtennis,mixed martial arts, sports business and social issues, and enterprise journalism.

In 2017, he became a60 Minutes correspondent onCBS and has covered a wide range of topics includingDenmark's increasing wealth due to new generation weight-loss drugs,George Clooney's Broadway role as pioneering journalistEdward R. Murrow,Donald Trump's fight to buyGreenland and extended interviews with sports starsCaitlin Clark andNovak Djokovic.[3]

Wertheim is the author of eleven books, includingStrokes of Genius: Federer, Nadal, and the Greatest Match Ever Played, which gives a stroke by stroke analysis of the2008 Men's Singles Wimbledon final betweenRoger Federer andRafael Nadal and is a co-author (along withToby Moskowitz) of the New York Times bestsellerScorecasting: The Hidden Influences Behind How Sports Are Played and Games Are Won, a wide-ranging statistical analysis of common misconceptions in American sports.

Television and Podcast Tennis Commentary

Wertheim is an on-air commentator forTennis Channel and a regular contributor on Andy Roddick's Served podcast[4] On November 9, 2024, during theTennis Channel's broadcast of theWTA Finals inRiyadh,Saudi Arabia, Wertheim made a joking comment aboutBarbora Krejčíková's appearance, unaware he was broadcasting on air with ahot mic. The following day, he was suspended by the Tennis Channel.[5] In response to his comment, Krejcikova posted her reaction on social media and Wertheim publicly apologized to her. He returned on air to Tennis Channel on January 6, 2025.[6]

Wertheim lives inNew York City with his wife and their two children.[10] He has an undergraduate degree fromYale University and aJuris Doctor degree from theUniversity of Pennsylvania.[11]
