Jeanne Rongier (November 27, 1852 – January 19, 1929) was a French painter.
Rongier was born inMâcon where she took lessons from Henri Senart.[1] She later took lessons fromHenri Joseph Harpignies, andEvariste Vital Luminais.[1] She is known for historic genre works after old masters such asFrans Hals andJacob Duck.[1]
Rongier exhibited her work at the Pennsylvania Building, thePalace of Fine Arts andThe Woman's Building at the 1893World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois.[2]
Her paintingSitting for a portrait in 1806, was included in the 1905 bookWomen Painters of the World.[3]
Rongier's paintingPicking The Dandelion was last seen inGenshiro Kawamoto's abandoned art collection after his arrest in 2013.[4] This painting was previously owned bySotheby's and auctioned off June 15th 1994.[5]
