Indian businessman
Ishaat Hussain is an Indian businessman and the former director ofTata Sons andTata Steel , and chairman ofTata Sky .[ 1] [ 2] He was also chairman of theTata Group company,Voltas .[ 3] Between November 2016 and September 2017, he was the interim chairman ofTata Consultancy Services , following the removal ofCyrus Mistry .[ 4] He joined the Tata Group in 1981 and retired in September 2017.[ 5] [ 6] [ 7]
In the media, he has often been called the "Wise Man ofBombay House ".[ 8]
Hussain went toThe Doon School inDehradun , and then obtained abachelor's degree in economics fromSt. Stephen's College, Delhi .[ 9] He then attended theadvance management programme at theHarvard Business School .[ 10]
After graduation, Hussain worked as a chartered accountant for seven years, before joining theTata Group in 1981[ 11] In 1999, he joined the board ofTata Sons .[ 12] [ 13] He became chairman ofVoltas in 2000, and was appointed to the board, and was the finance director, ofTata Sons .[ 14] In November 2016, he was appointed interim chairman ofTata Consultancy Services , afterCyrus Mistry was removed, following the much publicised feud with the board of Tata Sons.[ 15]
Ishaat was married to the conceptual artistRummana Hussain until her death in 1999.[ 16]
