Homelessness in Vatican City

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Homelessness inVatican City is a minor social issue. A shelter has been established just outside the Vatican walls and was opened byPope Francis.[1] The shelter is called “Gift of Mercy” (“Dono di Misericordia”).[2] Pope Francis has also organized for showers to be built in the public restrooms, and in 2015, allowed a deceased homeless local named Willy Herteleer, well known in the area, to be buried in the Vatican.[3]
