Gurinder Singh JosanCBE (born August 1972)[1] is a British politician who has served asMember of Parliament (MP) forSmethwick forLabour since the2024 general election.
Josan served onSandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, and sits on Labour'sNational Executive Committee and theWest Midlands'Strategic Policing and Crime Board.[2]
He was elected as councillor for the St Paul's ward ofSandwell Metropolitan Borough in the2002 Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council election and he served until 2010.[3]
He is a trustee of theHOPE Not Hate charitable trust, a former trustee of theGuru Nanak Gurdwara, Smethwick, a former member of the national executive of the Sikh Council UK, and is agovernor for three schools.[4] He is alandlord and owns eight rental properties.[5]
He was elected to theNational Executive Committee of the Labour Party in April 2020.[6]
On 30 May 2024, Josan was selected as Labour's parliamentary candidate to contest theSmethwick constituency in the2024 United Kingdom general election.[7][8] He won the seat with 16,858 votes (48.0%), and a majority of 11,188 (31.6%).[9][10][11]
He was appointed aCommander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the2019 New Year Honours, "for political service".[12]
