The paper was previously owned byHeartland Publications. In 2012 Versa Capital Management merged Heartland,Ohio Community Media, formerFreedom papers it had acquired, andImpressions Media into a new company,Civitas Media.[2] Civitas Media sold theNews Gazette toPaxton Media Group in 2017.[3]
