Emma Dante (Italian pronunciation:[ˈɛmmaˈdante]; born 6 April 1967) is an Italian playwright, theatre director and stage actress. She wrote, directed and starred in the 2013 filmA Street in Palermo.[1] She later directed numerous operas, includingRichard Strauss'Feuersnot[2] andHans Werner Henze'sGisela! in Palermo, andCarmen at theTeatro alla Scala.[3] In 2020The Macaluso Sisters, a film she co-wrote and directed based on her own acclaimed play, was entered into the main competition at the77th Venice International Film Festival.[4] Her third filmMisericordia was awarded the Grand Prix for the Best Film at the 27thTallinn Black Nights Film Festival.[5]
