Black is a single-memberelectoral district for theSouth Australian House of Assembly. It was created by the redistribution conducted in 2016, and was contested for the first time at the2018 state election.[2] Black is named afterDorrit Black (Dorothea Foster Black, 1891–1951), a South Australian modern artist, best known forlinocuts, oil and watercolour paintings.[2]

Black lies south-west of theAdelaide city centre and includes the suburbs ofDarlington,Hallett Cove,Kingston Park,Marino,O'Halloran Hill,Seacliff,Seacliff Park,Seacombe Heights,Seaview Downs,Sheidow Park andTrott Park.[3]

At its creation in 2018, Black was projected to be notionally held by theLiberal Party with a swing of 2.6% required to lose it.[4]: Appendix 12  Black replaced the electorate ofMitchell that was abolished ahead of the 2018 state election.[2] Black does not extend as far north or south as Mitchell did, but extends west to the coast through part of what used to beBright.

Aby-election was held on 16 November 2024, after the incumbent MP,David Speirs, resigned due to legal charges.[5] The by-election was won by theLabor candidate,Alex Dighton, following an 9% swing to Labor.[6]
