Chattha (also spelledChatha) is a politically influential[1][2]PunjabiJat clan[3] concentrated in theRachna Doab,[1] particularly around the historicalGujranwala District (which includes modern dayWazirabad andHafizabad).
The Chatthas, taking advantage of the weakening of theMughal empire, took over much ofWazirabad District and its environs while also ending tribute payments to theMughal Governor of Lahore. The Chatthas were also able to beat back the expandingSikhs on multiple occasions and had a particular rivalry with theSukerchakia Misl (memorialized in the epic poem,Chatthian di Vaar) who eventually defeated them.[4]
In the Rachna Doab there were Jat clans like Chhinna, Bajwa, Cheema, and Chattha...
