Cavitaves is aclade that contains the orderLeptosomiformes (cuckoo roller) and the cladeEucavitaves (a large assemblage of birds that includeswoodpeckers,kingfishers andtrogons).[1][2][3][4][5][6] This group was defined in thePhyloCode by George Sangster and colleagues in 2022 as "the least inclusive crown clade containingLeptosomus discolor andPicus viridis".[7] The name refers to the fact that the majority of them nest in cavities.
