Carene orKarene (Ancient Greek:Καρήνη),[1] also known asCarine orKarine (Καρίνη), was a town ofancient Mysia. The army ofXerxes I, on the route fromSardis to theHellespont, marched from theCaicus through theAtarneus to Carene; and from Carene through theplain of Thebe, passing byAdramyttium andAntandrus.[2] Carene is mentioned byStephanus of Byzantium,[1] and also mentioned in a fragment ofEphorus as having sent some settlers toEphesus, after the Ephesians had sustained a defeat from the people ofPriene.[3]
Its site is tentatively located near Assar Kaya/Tasağıl,Asiatic Turkey.[4][5]
