Bundesautobahn 71 (translates fromGerman asFederal Motorway 71, short formAutobahn 71, abbreviated asBAB 71 orA 71) is anAutobahn inGermany. It connects theA 38 andErfurt to theA 70 nearSchweinfurt. A further northern extension to theA 14 nearPlötzkau has been proposed by the state government ofSachsen-Anhalt.[1]
Construction on the A 71, supervised byDEGES, began in 1996, most parts were being opened by December 2005. The project was completed in September 2015. The section through theThuringian Forest was the most expensive road ever built in Germany with an average cost of €10 million per kilometre (€16,000,000/mi). This section includes theRennsteig Tunnel which is the longest road tunnel in Germany at 8 km (5.0 mi) and is called "Thüringer wald Autobahn" (Thuringian Forest Motorway).
