"Bossa Nova Baby" is a song written byJerry Leiber and Mike Stoller and recorded byElvis Presley on January 22, 1963, atRadio Recorders inHollywood, California[2] as part of thesoundtrack of the 1963 motion pictureFun in Acapulco. The song peaked at No. 8 on theBillboard Hot 100 in 1963.
The song was written by the songwriting duoJerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The song was initially given toTippie and the Clovers, who recorded and released the song on Leiber and Stoller own label Tiger Records in 1962. It was recorded with asamba rhythm and aFarfisa hook with an arrangement byAlan Lorber.[3][4] However, this version flopped and did not chart. Elvis Presley recorded the song for the 1963 motion pictureFun in Acapulco, despite the song having little to do withAcapulco orbossa nova. The Elvis Presley version was in arock and roll style with an organ riff, electric guitar and amariachi band.
The song reached number eight on theBillboard Hot 100 pop chart[5] and number 20 on theBillboard R&B Singles chart in 1963.[6] It also reached number 13 in the UK charts.[7] Elvis' recording appeared on the 1997 reiusse of the 1968 compilation albumElvis' Gold Records Volume 4 as a bonus track. The ElvisRCA Victor recording appeared in the 2011romantic comedy filmNo Strings Attached starringNatalie Portman andAshton Kutcher. In 2010, a remix version was released onViva Elvis: The Album.
