Borys Illich Oliynyk (Ukrainian:Борис Ілліч Олійник;Russian:Борис Ильич Олейник,Boris Ilyich Oleynik; 22 October 1935[1] – 30 April 2017) was aSoviet andUkrainian poet, translator, and political activist.
The first works were published in 1950.[1]
Graduated fromKiev State University in 1958.[1]
He served in theVerkhovna Rada from 1992 to 2006 and was chairman of the Ukrainian Culture Fund.[2]
Before his death, Oliynyk was the most prominent representative of thenational-communist movement within theCommunist Party of Ukraine.[3]
While being Ukrainian, Oliynyk also officially adopted a Russian version of his last name as Oleynik.
