Bata from Saka is an Egyptian bull-god of theNew Kingdom, who represents together with his brotherAnubis the 17th Upper EgyptianNome.
Until the middle of theEighteenth Dynasty Bata was represented as a ram and later as a bull. Bata is probably identical with the death godBt of the EgyptianOld Kingdom, known from theSaqqara necropolis, for instance from theMastaba of Ti. Bata is not mentioned in thePyramid Texts andCoffin Texts.
Bata is the name of the protagonist in theTale of Two Brothers, a copy of which survives on theNew KingdomPapyrus D’Orbiney, where he is the brother of Anubis. He is also mentioned in thePtolemaic Papyrus Jumilhac.
