Avena insularis is a species of wild oat in the genusAvena that is native to SouthernSicilia and North-EasternTunisia.[1] The species is atetraploid and is found in uncultivated patches around theMediterranean.[2]

The species is suspected of being closely related tohexaploid oatsAvena sativa andAvena byzantina.[3]
