Apollonis (Ancient Greek:Ἀπολλωνίς),[1] also known asApollonia (Ἀπολλωνία),[2]Apollones (Ἀπολλώνης),[3] andApollonias (Ἀπολλωνίας),[4] was a city inancient Lydia. It was located south ofApollonia in Mysia, where there is a ridge of hills, after crossing which the road toSardis had on the leftThyatira, and on the right Apollonis, which was 300stadia fromPergamum, and the same distance from Sardis.[1] It was named after the queen Apollonis, the mother ofEumenes II andAttalus II of Pergamum, in the place of an older city; possiblyDoidye.[5] It was mentioned byCicero.[6] It was destroyed in 17 CE by thegreat earthquake that destroyed twelve cities ofAsia Minor.[7]Tiberius rebuilt the city.[8] It issued coins; those fromMarcus Aurelius toSeverus Alexander are extant.[9] Apollonis is atitular see of theRoman Catholic Church.[10]

The site of Apollonis is located nearPalamut Kalesi,Mecidiye,Akhisar.[11][12]
