The62nd Cannes Film Festival took place from 13 May to 24 May 2009. French actressIsabelle Huppert served as jury president for the main competition. Austrian filmmakerMichael Haneke won thePalme d'Or, the festival's top prize, for the drama filmThe White Ribbon.[2]

The festival opened withUp byPete Docter,[3][4] marking the first time that an animated film opened the festival, and closed withCoco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky byJan Kounen.[5]

American filmmakerClint Eastwood became the second recipient of theHonorary Palme d'Or.[6]
