Update (11 P.M., November 20, 2016):Selena Gomez made a surprise return to the public eye at the American Music Awards on Sunday night. The singer has been taking time off to attend to her health since August, but she was nominated for two awards at the 2016 A.M.A.s. She won one of them, Favorite Female Artist-Pop/Rock, and she delivered an extremely emotional speech when she got to the mic.

“In 2014, this stage was actually the first time I was authentically, 100-percent honest with all of you. I think it’s safe to say that most of you know a lot of my life—whether I liked it or not—and I had to stop. ’Cause I had everything, and I was absolutely broken inside,” Gomez began.

She told the audience that she kept it all together for the sake of her fans, but she put her own health and happiness second in doing so. She shared what she’s learned in the time since she was first onstage at the A.M.A.s in 2014 before ending her speech: “If you are broken, then you do not have to stay broken.”

If you're going to make a triumphant return to red carpets, take a cue from Selena Gomez.

The singer, who took a break from the limelight in August todeal with her health, re-emerged Sunday night at the 2016 American Music Awards in a stunningred Prada gown. Gomez is nominated for Artist of the Year and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist.

Rumors swirled last week of Gomez’s possible attendance at the AMAs after the show’s producer,Larry Klein, suggested toE! News that it could happen. Nevertheless, nothing was confirmed until the moment Gomez appeared on the red carpet.

Her makeup artist,Hung Vanngo, gave fans a sneak peak at Gomez’s look for the night onInstagram, sending her fans into a tizzy about the singer’s return to the public eye.

Gomez’s look on the red carpet was full-on glam, with sleek hair and a smokey eye.

The singer announced in August that she’d be canceling upcoming appearances and performances to enter a rehab facility to deal with depression and anxiety, stemming from a lupus diagnosis.

“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off,“ the 24-year-old toldPeople. “Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.”

Gomez did not do any interviews Sunday night on the carpet, so there’s no guarantee the night’s award show marked the singer’s complete return to the public eye. Gomez’s reps have not yet responded to request for comment.
