This is an autotool- and libtoolized port of theNetBSDEditline library (libedit). ThisBerkeley-style licensedcommand line editor library provides generic line editing, history, and tokenization functions, similar to those found inGNU Readline.

Various examples are distributed with this package in the/examples directory.
libcurses, as well as libedit, should be linked to Editline enabled programs, e.g.
gcc -o test test.c -ledit -lncurses
A pkg-configlibedit.pc file is provided, so you can write
PKG_CHECK_MODULES(LIBEDIT, libedit)
inconfigure.ac of your client program to detect the existenceof libedit.so and to set CFLAGS and LIBS for using libedit.
Using the pkg-config helper tool, the linkingtest example above looks like,
gcc -o test test.c `pkg-config --libs --cflags libedit`
