Classical singer Ila Majumdar
Noted classical vocalist Ila Majumdar, wife of late Barin Majumdar and mother of Bappa Majumdar, died on May 3. She died of stroke at her Maghbazar residence.

Pop singer Pilu Momtaz
Pop singer Pilu Momtaz died of heart attack at Apollo Hospital, Dhaka on May 23. She was 52. Pilu Momtaz was the third of renowned artiste Ustad Momtaz Ali's seven children.

Singer Azam Khan
Azam Khan, a freedom fighter, singer, composer and guitarist, known as the “Pop Guru” whose popularity transcended generations of music lovers, passed away on June 5 at Combined Military Hospital (CMH). He was 62.

Artist Kibria
Eminent artist Professor Emeritus Mohammad Kibria died of old-age complications at the city's LabAid Hospital on June 7. He was 82.

Artist Aminul Islam
Veteran painter Aminul Islam passed away on July 8 at his residence. He was 80.

Dr. Munna of Renaissance
Dr. Mahbub Morshed Munna, harmonica player of the band Renaissance died on July 13, at his residence in Dhanmondi, Dhaka due to a massive heart attack. He was only 49.

Singer Abid
Close up-1 singer Abid Shahriar and one of his colleagues drowned in the sea at Cox's Bazar on July 29. Abid, 26, a known face in the country's music arena through the talent hunt show, and his friend Mostakim, 27, were in the beach city on a two-day tour with a team from advertising agency Matra.

Filmmmaker Tareque Masud and DoP-Journalist Mishuk Munier
The lives of internationally acclaimed filmmaker Tareque Masud and CEO of ATN News internationally renowned journalist Mishuk Munier were rudely cut short on August 13 in a road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj. Tareque Masud produced some of classics.

Dr. Mridul Kanti Chakrobarty-- noted singer, instrumentalist, writer, researcher, music critic and Professor at the department of Music, Dhaka University -- died on August 15 at Labaid Cardiac Hospital in the capital. He was 56.

Singer-composer Ajit Roy
Veteran music director, artiste and composer Ajit Roy, passed away on September 4 at Birdem Hospital. He was 73. During Liberation War, his contribution as a Shabdo Shainik at Shadhin Bangla Betar Kendra was immense.

Artist Imdad Hossain
Language Movement veteran and artist Imdad Hossain passed away due to old age complications. He died at about 10:30am on October 13. He was 85. Hossain encouraged freedom fighters at the training camps with his artworks during the Liberation War. He received Ekushey Padak and other prestigious awards for his outstanding contribution to the Language Movement.

Photographer Rashid Talukder
Rashid Talukder, one of the most acclaimed photojournalists in the country, died on October 25 at the age of 72. As a war photographer in 1971, he took photographs that are considered to be major documents of the Liberation War.

Litterateur Rashid Karim
Noted author Rashid Karim died at Ibrahim Cardiac Centre in Dhaka on November 26. He was 86. He was ailing from age-related complications.

National Professor Kabir Chowdhury
Kabir Chowdhury, a national professor who became the icon of anti-communalism through his decades-long active stance against the forces of evil and injustice, succumbed to a cardiac arrest on December 13. The reputed academic was 89.

Professor Razia Khan
Dr Razia Khan Amin, an eminent litterateur and English professor at Dhaka University, passed away in a city hospital on December 28 at the age of 75. She had been ill for quite some time. Prof Razia Khan Amin is the daughter of distinguished politician and social activist Moulvi Tamizuddin Khan.
