Leadership

Charles Liang founded Supermicro and has served as our President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board since our inception in September 1993. Mr. Liang has been developing server system architectures and technologies for the past two decades.
From July 1991 to August 1993, Mr. Liang was President and Chief Design Engineer of Micro Center Computer Inc., a high-end motherboard design and manufacturing company. From January 1988 to April 1991, Mr. Liang was Senior Design Engineer and Project Leader for Chips & Technologies, Inc., a chipset technology company, and Suntek Information International Group, a system and software development company. Mr. Liang has been granted many server technology patents. Mr. Liang holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University of Science & Technology in Taiwan.

Kevin Bauer was appointed as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer on January 30, 2018. Mr. Bauer has previously served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Strategy since January 2017. Prior to joining Supermicro, Mr. Bauer was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Pericom Semiconductor Corporation from February 2014 until its sale to Diodes, Incorporated in November 2015 and, thereafter, assisted Diodes with the integration of Pericom until November 2016. Prior to that he was Chief Financial Officer of Exar Corporation from June 2009 through December 2012, Corporate Controller from August 2004 to June 2009 and Operations Controller from February 2001 to August 2005. Previously, Mr. Bauer was Operations Controller at WaferTech LLC (a subsidiary of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited) from July 1997 to February 2001. Prior to WaferTech, he was at VLSI Technology for ten years where he held a variety of increasingly more senior finance roles culminating in his position as Director and Group Controller. Mr. Bauer received an MBA from Santa Clara University and a BS in Business Administration from California Lutheran University.

Alex Hsu is Supermicro’s Chief Operating Officer appointed by the Board of Directors on September 6, 2019. Mr. Hsu has served in various senior positions with the Company since October 2003. Mr. Hsu served as Chairman of Supermicro Taiwan since February 2018, Senior Chief Executive of Strategic Business since August 2009, and Executive Director of Supermicro Technology (Beijing) Co. Ltd. since August 2009. Mr. Hsu was also the Company’s Chief Sales and Marketing Officer from July 2006 to August 2009, Senior Vice President of Sales from October 2004 to July 2006 and President of European Offices and Vice President of Operations (USA) from October 2003 to October 2004.
Before Supermicro, Mr. Hsu was President and Chief Operating Officer of Bizlink Group, an IT solutions company, before Bizlink Group he was a private investor and consultant for Silicon Valley startups, and previously Mr. Hsu was President and Chief Operating Officer at Oplink Communications, Inc., a networking solutions company. Mr. Hsu has over 40 years of experience in the IT industry and served in various managerial and executive positions at Philips, Acer, Hewlett-Packard and Umax group. Mr. Hsu holds an M.B.A. and a B.S. in Electronic Engineering from National Chao-Tung University in Taiwan.

Don Clegg is the Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Don joined Supermicro in April of 2006 and over a period of 12 years, held a series of increasingly senior sales and marketing roles. Previously, he served as Vice President of Marketing and Worldwide Business Development for Supermicro. Don has 35+ years of direct experience in sales, marketing, product engineering and design. Don started his career as a Design Engineer and evolved from Engineer to Vice President of Sales and Marketing working at several established and startup Silicon Valley system and semiconductor companies including Chips and Technologies, OPTi, Tyan Computer Corporation and others. Don graduated with high honors from Brigham Young University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering.

Mr. George Kao was promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations in February 2018. George joined Supermicro in October 2016 as the Vice President of Operations. Previously, George served as Vice President of Operations of Pericom Semiconductor Corp. (later sold to Diodes in 2015), starting in October 2006. He also served as a COO of Orient Semiconductor Electronics Philippines, from July 2003, where he still serves as a Director. George joined there from Santa Clara- based Foveon. He has over 30 years of experience working in the global technology industry. George began his career at National Semiconductor in 1984 in the BipolarLlogic group before moving through senior positions at Integrated Circuit Systems, Synaptics, and Altima, later sold to Broadcom. Mr. Kao holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from California State Polytechnic University.

David Weigand has served as our Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer since May 2018. Prior to his employment with our company, Mr. Weigand was a Vice President at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) from November 2016 until April 2018 and served as Vice President, Tax at Silicon Graphics International, Inc., from September 2013 until its acquisition by HPE in November 2016. Prior to that he was Vice President, Chief Financial Officer of Renesas Electronics America, a semiconductor company formed by the merger of the semiconductor businesses of NEC Corporation, Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric from October 2010 until April 2013, and Vice President, Controller of NEC Electronics America from October 2004 until September 2010. Mr. Weigand holds a M.S. degree in Taxation from the University of Hartford and a B.S. degree in Accounting from San Jose State University and is a Certified Public Accountant in California (Inactive).

Charles Liang founded Supermicro in 1993 and has been President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board. Mr. Liang, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, has been developing server system architectures and technologies for over three decades. With a passion for Green IT and protecting the environment, Mr. Liang has been the driving force behind Supermicro’s transformation into a Total IT Solutions provider for Enterprise, Cloud, AI, and 5G/Edge markets. Under Mr. Liang’s guidance, Supermicro has evolved from a motherboard and subsystem company to a multi-billion-dollar business optimizing complete rack and data center-level solutions customers can deploy and bring online within hours. In addition, the Company has expanded globally well beyond its San Jose, California headquarters to encompass significant manufacturing and operations campuses in Asia and Europe with over 4,000 employees globally. Mr. Liang has been granted many server technology patents. Mr. Liang holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the National Taiwan University of Science & Technology in Taiwan.

Mr. Liaw co-founded the Company in 1993. From the Company’s founding until January 2018, Mr. Liaw was an employee and held various executive positions in the Company, including Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Corporate Secretary and was a member of the Board of Directors. From June 2020 until April 2021, Mr. Liaw was the president of 2CRSi Corporation, a company headquartered in Strasbourg, France that develops, produces and sells high-performance customized, environmentally-friendly servers. Mr. Liaw returned to the Company as a consultant in May 2021, advising the Company with respect to business development matters. In August 2022, Mr. Liaw returned to full-time employment with the Company as Senior Vice President, Business Development. Mr. Liaw holds an M.S. in Computer Engineering from University of Arizona, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Tatung Institute of Technology in Taiwan, and a B.S. degree from Taiwan Provincial College of Marine and Oceanic Technology.
