The Head-up Display (HUD) reduces dangerous distractions by displaying key information, such as the car’s speed, navigation directions and other alerts, directly in the driver’s line of sight. First adopted for military purposes on fighter jets, HUD is now playing a crucial role inside automotive HMI (Human Machine Interface). An HUD shows the information in the driver’s field of view, there is no need to look down to the instrument cluster or the secondary display and therefore take the eyes off the road. In the case of a windshield head-up display, drivers are able to see a virtual image as “floating” over the hood at a distance of about 1.5-2 meters.
