Blue Jays place Jose Bautista on disabled list

TheToronto Blue Jays placed right-fielderJose Bautista on the disabled list Friday.
Bautista was diagnosed with left big toe soreness after crashing into the right-field fence while chasing a fly ball in Philadelphia Thursday.

With Bautista sidelined, Ezequiel Carrera projects as Toronto’s starting right fielder. The Blue Jays called up Darrell Ceciliani to reinforce their bench and take Bautista’s place on the active roster. Ceciliani, a left-handed hitter who impressed the Blue Jays in spring training, is hitting .217/.271/.283 for the Buffalo Bisons this year.
Bautista has 12 home runs with a .230/.360/.455 batting line in 65 games this season. Now in the final year of his contract with the Blue Jays, the 35-year-old leads the American League with 48 walks.
