18th September 1949 - A fine collection of pictures taken at the Australian Grand Prix fro the Dennis Rowbotham collection.

Despite the high speeds achieved, up to 140 mph, on the long back straight the Leyburn circuit was not popular with some of the drivers. 

John Crouch won this event in his Delahaye, 2nd was Ray Gordon in a MG TC, 3rd went to Arthur Rizzo and 4th being Peter Critchley in a MG TB who ran an auto body repair shop on Parramatta Rd in Sydneys inner West. Other notable drivers in the event were Frank Klienig in a Hudson, Charlie Whatmore in a Studebaker and Ken Tubman in a MG.
