Gary Rush is pictured here at Bunbury Speedway during the running of the 1977 Australian Sprintcar Championship.

This would be the first National Championship win of many for Garry. In an interview with Rapid Images many years later, Garry made the comment that he had a soft spot for Bunbury Speedway because of his first win.

Rarin to go when the 1977 - 1978 speedway season opens at Bunbury next Saturday night is Tandra Beard, of Strickland street, Bunbury, who will be making her debut in the Junior saloon car division. At 12 years of age, Tandra will be one of the youngest competitors ever seen on the North Boyanup Road track. A 60 per cent increase in prize money is expected to attract big fields in all divisions of racing this season.
