The University of Southampton’s Education School has had an international reputation in biology, chemistry and physics education research for many years.

Group Overview

Members of the Science Education SIG are involved in science education research across a range of areas such as decision-making, socio-scientific issues, health education, environmental education, outdoor science education and engaging under represented groups in science education and careers. The group has extensive experience in research, initial teacher training, and CPD for science teachers, and works closely with colleagues across the world. They publish books, book chapters and articles in international journals in the area of Science Education, and are represented on various editorial boards.

The Group has particularly strong links with professional and research associations such as the Association for Science Education (ASE), European Science Education Research Association (ESERA) and European Researchers in Didactics of Biology (ERIDOB).

Convenor: Marcus Grace .

This research area comes under the Mathematics and Science Education Research Centre (MaSE).

Marcus Grace is Professor of Science Education and former Head of the Education School. He is a doctoral supervisor and teaches on undergraduate, Masters and postgraduate initial teacher training programmes.
