Many X-Factor winners have faded into the distance since their brief periods of stardom following the show. But this can't be said of Shayne Ward. After winning the second series of the giant TV show, his single 'That's my Goal' reached number 1, and since then, Ward has consistently produced fantastic music.
What sets him apart from other X-Factor competitors and winners, is his songwriting abilities and raw talent in a variety of musical spectrums. When he began touring, Shayne appeared static and nervous (although still giving a flawless performance, incorporating his magnificent falsetto), but has since grown a hundredfold, and gave the most spectacular, energy injected performance i've ever witnessed! The intimate venue was absolutely packed, with the eclectic fan base all enthralled by the expectation of the evening. The 'Up Close and Personal' tour showcased Shayne's back catalogue, right up to his newest tracks, and this gave the opportunity for everyone to hear their favourite tracks. Whilst the support artists impressed us all, we were desperate for the headline act to begin, and wow, when it did not a single member of the audience could resist jumping up and down and singing along with the most famous tunes. Not only is Ward a phenomenal vocalist, he is a world class performer, who is completely dedicated to every moment of his set without an exception. The intimacy of the venue made a great night perfect, as Shane was able to interact so personally with the entire audience, making each individual feel valued. A fantastic show, please go if you get the chance!
From bulging abs and smooth dance moves to a fantastic voice, Shayne Ward showed it all off during his 'Breathless' tour which visited the NEC in Birmingham back in 2008. Even after seeing many successful artists live since the show, Shayne Ward's performance still stands out in my mind, especially as he descended across the crowd all in white like an angel to sing for us.
The Pop and R&B singer rose to stardom after first winning the UK X Factor competition, which secured him a record label with Simon Cowell's label 'Syco'. His single 'That's my Goal' went on to be one of the fastest selling singles in the UK in 2005, which wasn't a surprise as the song is far too catchy to forget about.
His second single, which was released in 2007 'No U Hang Up', was a personal favourite of mine which he performed on his tour with massive amounts of energy and enthusiasm that it was almost infectious. In 2013 the star even showed just how many moves he did have by participating in Dancing on Ice, getting through to the fifth round. Although it wasn't quite as exhilarating as watching him sing on a stage with tight fitting tops, strobe lights and dancers. His performance during the tour certainly left me breathless, as I'm sure many of those who got to witness it will agree, which I certainly wasn't expecting.
The X Factor usually does not serve it's winners well. Winning the show has always been a bit of a curse for an artist - look at the success of runners up; One Direction, JLS Olly Murs, compared with winners.
However, despite not achieving the commercial success hoped for him since winning the show back in 2005, Shayne Ward has enjoyed at least some of this in recent years.
His debut single "That's My Goal" - the X Factor winner's single - sold 313,000 copies on it's first day, making it the fourth fastest selling UK single of all time, that year's Christmas number one and held the top spot for a total of four weeks.
After taking a hiatus from music after the success of his first two albums, his third album did not do as well as hoped. That said, when I saw Shayne Ward live last year at the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham, I was surprised as to why he hasn't remained as successful as he started out. His stage presence was great, his songs were great and his voice was still as great, if not better, than when he was on the show.
I was reluctant to go to the gig but I'm glad I did. TV talent shows and the commercial machine do not always do artists justice. Live shows are the best way to showcase talent, and after seeing Shayne Ward live once, I would definitely see him again!
Superb. Fabulous voice, and an amazing entertainer. Not bad to look at either!!! He came down from the ceiling on a wire in a tuxedo - wow.
Can't wait to see you in Coventry in March 2021 if the Corona Virus lets us. Jane Mortimer.
