Following the launch of Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire, rumblings started to happen about DS games and they were announced in a text listing. From there, nothing was heard about the games for a long time until a "Road to Diamond & Pearl" was announced featuring multiple spin-off games until the release of Diamond & Pearl. The games had a breakthrough change of making it so rather than it being based on types, each move was either physical or special depending on their attributes. It added 107 new Pokémon, including many evolutions of previous Pokémon and introduced online play as standard for the games, allowing players all across the world to play with eachother.
