The Scottish Lime Centre Trust (SLCT) was established in 1994 in response to growing concern over the shortage of skills and understanding in the field of traditional building technology.
We are specialists in the analysis of historic and modern mortars for aiding specification, archaeology and understanding failures..
As specialists in the use of lime mortars we can create materials specifications and working techniques tailored to your project.
We are on hand to assist with problems and glitches with your conservation, repair or construction projects at any stage of the work.
We have the largest known collection of currently available sands and aggregates enabling us to assist with selection or matching for your project.
We run a wide range of traditional skills training courses to suit all backgrounds; enhance your skills set or gain SQA accreditation in masonry conservation.
The Scottish Lime Centre has a multi-skilled/multi-disciplined staff and external consultants (employed for specific projects) with a broad range of experience and expertise. We work as a team in an informal, but very productive, atmosphere in ourCharlestown Workshops offices which we rescued and restored under the remit of a building preservation trust.
Such a brilliant two day course! It was extremely informative and the hands on practical element was great!
attended our P1 course
I just wanted to say that this course exceeded my expectations. Your tutor was very knowledgeable, witty and managed to make even the more tedious material interesting. The course was exceptionally well organised, it was a seamless production and well planned.
I enjoyed the course so much, I would like to come back and do some more courses in the future and I will be recommending the centre to everyone I think will be interested.
attended our Lime Pointing Course on 27 April 2019
Just a quick email to say that Edinburgh World Heritage is delighted with the recently delivered lime pointing training workshop. The volunteers all had a super time and I'm really confident that they will go on to apply the skills and knowledge learnt. Scott is a phenomenal trainer and their new found confidence was very much linked to his knowledge and manner.
