Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) earned the Grand Prize for the Port Miami Tunnel in the 2015 America's Transportation Award's national competition. FDOT beat out the competition of 48 transportation projects from 24 states. Congratulation to our Tunnel team and all those that help make the Tunnel a success!
Safety is our number one priority and we are proud to announce that the tunnel team reached 100,000 work hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI) in March. This important milestone follows on from 1 full yearLTI free achieved in August 2015. Fantastic work team, keep it up!

Road Safety is always a criticalfous atPortMiami Tunnel. During our December Safety Meeting, all employees took our Road Safety Pledge to show their commitment to keeping themselves and everyone else on the road safe at all times. Remember, road safety starts with you!
The tunnel is designed to service both cruise and cargo traffic, but cruise passengers and non-cargo vehicles should keep to the left after exiting the tunnel atPortMiami.
In order to keep the tunnel running smoothly, regular maintenance is conducted on the tunnels many safety systems. Please visit theScheduled Tunnel Closures page for information regarding planned maintenance closures.


ThePortMiami Tunnel (POMT) project was built by MAT Concessionaire, LLC, in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami.
By connecting SRA1A/MacArthur Causeway to Dodge Island, the project provides direct access between the seaport and highways I-395 and I-95, create another entry toPortMiami in addition to the Port Bridge to keep PortMiami, the community’s second largest economic generator, competitive.
Additionally, ThePOMT improves traffic flow in downtown Miami by reducing the number of cargo trucks and cruise related vehicles on congested downtown streets, and aids ongoing and future development in and around downtown Miami.
