About Derek Hanekom

Mr Hanekom served as the Minister of Tourism. Mr Hanekom was born 13 January 1953. He attended school at Jan van Riebeeck Secondary school and, after his compulsory conscription, traveled abroad. He worked for various organisations and on farms, factories and building sites. He returned to SA and practised farming for six years. He worked with the trade union movement in Johannesburg before being deported to Zimbabwe with his wife in 1987. He returned in 1990, and worked at the headquarters of the ANC, where he was responsible for policy formulation on land and agricultural matters. Source: (gov.za)
