PGE completes final phase of Biglow Canyon wind farm
said Wednesday that it has completed the final phase of the Biglow Canyon wind farm near Wasco in Sherman County. Biglow, the company's largest renewable energy project, includes 217 turbines and is expected to produce an average of about 150 megawatts of electricity, enough to power about 125,000 homes. The $1 billion project, developed by Orion Energy LLC and owned and operated by PGE, will raise rates by a total of 4.5 percent. An increase of roughly 2.7 percent is already reflected in rates. Biglow will help PGE fulfill Oregon's renewable energy standard, which requires investor-owned utilities to meet 25 percent of their customers demand with renewable energy by the year 2025. PGE expects renewables, including some existing wind power purchase agreements, to provide about 9 percent of its demand by the end of this year.
