Belhare (आठपहरिया)

Belhare is a member of the Kiranti branch of Sino-Tibetan language family. It is spoken by about 600 people in the village of Belhara, part of the Dhankuta District in Province No. 1 in eastern Nepal. It is spoken mainly by older adults. Children and young people are more likely to speak Nepali.

Belhare is also known as Belhariya, Athpariya (II), Athpagari, Athpare or Athpariya. It is closely related to Athpariya (I).

There are ways to write Belhare with the Devanagari and Latin alphabets, although very few Belhare speakers are literate in their languages.
