The history between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks dates back more than 60 years and started when both franchises called the Empire State home. In the inaugural NBA season, the Syracuse Nationals and the Knickerbockers played twice, with the team that would eventually become the Sixers sweeping the series.
Since then, the teams have played 479 times in the regular season (the 76ers have a 266-213 record) and 39 times in the postseason (23-16), most notably in the 1983 Eastern Conference semifinals, before theJulius Erving,Moses Malone, and the Sixers would go on to win the NBA Championship.
The Sixers faced the Knicks in four games during the 2022-23 season, with the Sixers winning on Christmas Day in Madison Square Garden, the “World’s Most Famous Arena” 119-112. The 76ers took down the Knicks again on February 10, this time at home, withEmbiid andTyrese Maxey combining for 62 points.
The Sixers and Knicks faced off four times during the 2023-24 regular season. New York came out on top, taking three of the four matchups.
The 76ers and Knicks faced off in the 1st round of the 2023-24 NBA Playoffs. This nail-biter series resulted in a 4-2 victory for the Knicks. Each game was decided by less than 10 points, with the exception of the Sixers Game 3 victory with a final score of 125-114. Joel Embiid recorded 50 points in Game 3, while Tyrese Maxey scored 46 points in Game 5, forcing Game 6 with mere seconds left.
During the ‘24-25 season, the Knicks and the Sixers faced off four times. Their first matchup against the Knicks on November 12 at home was a part of theNBA Emirates Cup, with the Sixers falling 111-99 to New York. The Knicks visited Philadelphia again on January 15, losing in overtime 119-125. On February 26, the Sixers fell to the Knicks 105-110. The 76ers played at MSG on April 1, ending the season series 0-4.
During the 2025–26 season, the 76ers and Knicks have met three times. The first two matchups took place in New York on December 19 and January 3, with Philadelphia winning both to improve to 19–15 on the season. The teams met again on January 24 at Xfinity Mobile Arena, where—despite a 38-point performance from Joel Embiid—the Sixers came up just short in a 112–109 loss.
