Specific Gravity:
3.41 (Calculated)
Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Member of:
Name:
Name in honor of Lawrence Grossman (b. 1946), Professor of Cosmochemistry at the University of Chicago, Illinois, USA. He made significant contributions to meteorite research.
Type Locality:
Pyroxene Group.Clinopyroxene Subgroup. The Ti3+ analogue ofburnettite (V),davisite (Sc),esseneite (Fe3+), andkushiroite (Al).

The CaAl analogue ofcolomeraite (yet another Ti3+-rich clinopyroxene).

One of just a few currently known phases with essential trivalent Ti, bytistarite,'UM1971-21-SiO:AlCaMgTi' and'UM1978-08-O:AlCaCrFeMgTi'.

Common in both fluffy and compact types of Ca-Al-rich inclusions (CAIs) of a chondrite. Probably formed in residual melt pockets.

CompareUM2004-50-SiO:AlFeGd.
