Nintendo has confirmed that it is to cut $20 off the price of its two most recent versions of the DS in North America from September 12th.

The DSi will drop from $169.99 to $149.99 and the larger DSi XL will fall from $189.99 to $169.99. The older DS will remain priced at $129.99.

Last monthNintendo slashed the price of the DSi to 129.99 in the UK, though the device can easily be found for as little as 114.99 new on the UK High Street.

We know shoppers want to get the maximum value out of every dollar they spend,” NOA marketing boss Cammie Dunaway stated.

The move comes as Nintendo starts to shift its focus to its next generation handheld the 3DS, which could yet arrive in some territories (most likely Japan) by the end of the year.
