The Mathematics Department of the Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences is one of the oldest mathematics departments in the United States, graduating its first major in 1776. The undergraduate program enrolls approximately twenty-three thousand students each year and counts five hundred majors, while the doctoral program covers all areas of pure and applied mathematics. In addition, our mathematical finance program enrolls approximately one hundred masters students. Our faculty represent a broad array of disciplines within mathematics and also work on problems arising in physics, chemistry, biology, computer science and engineering.
