Dr. Stith has been a physics professor at The Ohio State Universitysince 1993, he has been a member of the AAPT since 1964 wherehe has held the offices of Past President, President, PresidentElect and Vice President (1990-1994). His professional honorsinclude: Fellow APS (1996), Distinguished Service Citation byAAPT (1995), Archie L. Lacey Memorial Award by The New York Academyof Sciences (1994), Doctor of Humane Letters by Virginia StateUniversity (1992), and many others. Dr. Stith has served on numerousnational panels and committees. He is affiliated not only withthe AAPT but also the American Physical Society, American Associationof the Advancement of Science, Council of Scientific Society Presidentsand National Society of Black Physicists. Dr. Stith has publisheda large number of paper in the Physics Teacher, Physics Today,and the American Journal of Physics and he has given many invitedtalks at numerous scientific association meetings and nationalmeetings.
Dr. Stith served in the U.S. Army for more than two decades,mostly as professor of physics at the U.S. Military Academy atWest Point, New York. He is currently President-elect of the NationalSociety of Black Physicists. In 1998, he became AIP's directorof physics programs. As director of physics programs, he willoversee the American Institute of Physics' career services, education,public information and statistics divisions, its history sectionand its magazines.
In 2004, Dr. Stith was selected as one of the50Most Important Blacks in Research Science.
