- —Vincent Van Gore,Luigi's Mansion
Vincent Van Gore, the Starving Artist, is aportrait ghost who appears in the gameLuigi's Mansion andits remake. He has teal skin, white hair, a white mustache and pointed beard, and glowing green eyes. He wears a red beret, a deep green overcoat over a red and yellow striped shirt, and often carries his palette and paintbrush. Vincent Van Gore can bring his paintings to life.[1] Only his English name suggests him to be a parody ofVincent van Gogh, despite having a stereotypical French accent instead of Vincent van Gogh's nationality of Dutch, but Vincent Van Gore's unlocalized name does not base him on any famous painter. His portrait number inProfessor E. Gadd's gallery is 21.
Vincent Van Gore resides inThe Artist's Studio, on the third floor of the mansion. When Luigi enters the room, the ghost expresses his anger at seeing his creations being vacuumed. In battle, Van Gore uses sets of seven ghosts to attack Luigi; each group consists of three (five in thePAL Hidden Mansion andremake) ghosts. In order, the seven following types of ghosts areGold Ghosts,Purple Punchers,Blue Twirlers, RedGrabbing Ghosts, RedGhost Guys,Garbage Can Ghosts, andPurple Bombers. After all of the ghosts are vacuumed, Vincent Van Gore becomes very angry by the loss of his artwork. In this state, his heart is exposed and Luigi can easily suck up the spirit with hisPoltergust 3000. He is eventually sucked inside the Poltergust and drops theSecret AltarKey. He is the only non-boss ghost to give away a special key. After being sucked up, standard enemy ghosts such asPurple Bombers no longer spawn in dark hallways, though smaller ghosts likebats do continue to spawn.

Notes
- A painting of a man resembling Van Gore can be found at the far end of theParlor, near the candles Luigi must extinguish. This image may depict Van Gore's appearance when he was alive.
- There is a glitch where if Luigi leaves the room without collecting the key and goes out to theBalcony, the key vanishes. If he heads back into the hallway, the key respawns, with the sound of it dropping being audible. However, if Luigi goes back outside to the Balcony once more before returning to The Artist's Studio, the key is duplicated.[2]
