Thwomp Platforms are stone blocks debuting inDonkey Kong for theGame Boy as tough, indestructible obstacles. They first appear inStage 2-8, on theForest, and behave just likeThwomps, despite showing no signs of eyes or facial features. IfMario approaches them, they drop down and attempt to squish him. If they do so, Mario becomes surrealistically flat and loses a life. On the other hand, Mario can hop on and use them as improvisedelevators. In this instance, Thwomp Platforms can squish Mario by pushing him against the ceiling.

Thwomp Platforms return inMario vs. Donkey Kong, where they act almost exactly like they did inDonkey Kong. In this game, they keep smashing the ground regardless if Mario is below them; Thwomps make an appearance and exhibit behavior similar to theDonkey Kong version, but cannot be used as platforms. Thwomp Platforms also have a new design, looking decorated rather than appearing to be plain rocks. In theremake, the Thwomp Platforms inSlippery Summit are slightly darker, but otherwise act the same.
