- —Podler,Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
TheSuper Hammer is a powerful upgrade to the regularhammer appearing mostly in some of therole-playing games.
History[edit]
Donkey Kong (Game Boy)[edit]
Super Hammers are items introduced in theGame Boy version ofDonkey Kong. Super Hammers can defeat enemies as well as break through brick walls and some floors. Super Hammers are first encountered inStage 5-1. Mario cannot jump while holding a Super Hammer, but he can still throw one upward, allowing him to take the Super Hammer to a higher platform.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars[edit]
InSuper Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars andits Nintendo Switch remake, the Super Hammer appears as a weapon that can be bought from the shop inMarrymore's hotel or theShaman merchant at thesea orSunken Ship for 72coins. In the game itself, it looks exactly the same as the normal Hammer, but in the official artwork for, the words "SUPER" can be seen on the hammerhead's side.
Paper Mario series[edit]
Paper Mario[edit]
InPaper Mario, it can smashStone Blocks and deals more damage to enemies. In battle, atimed Super Hammer attack deals four points of damage to a defenseless enemy without attack-raisingBadges (while Mario's normalHammer only delivers two). It is found inDry Dry Ruins inside a small room with a stone block blocking the way out. When Mario finds theUltra Hammer inMt. Lavalava, it replaces the Super Hammer.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]
InPaper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it can be used to break largeYellow Blocks in addition to ordinary ones (it cannot break Stone Blocks unlike in the first game, however). In this game, it is alternatively referred to as theHAMMAWHACK 2005, and is given to Mario inGlitzville byPodler, who in turn received it fromX, so that he could use it to smash the huge Yellow Block in the minor league locker room. Podler says that the commercials for it claim that the hammer "chooses its user", and that "they aren't cheap". In this game, the Super Hammer's hammerhead has a darker shade of grey. The Super Hammer in this game grants Mario a new move, also known as theSuper Hammer, that can be used both on the field and in battle. Holding while the player does not have the Super Hammer prevents Mario from moving, though this was rectified for international releases.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga /Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[edit]
InMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its3DS remake,Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, the Super Hammer is an upgrade to the regular hammer, which can be acquired from theHammerhead Bros. inside the caverns of easternBeanbean Fields after mastering theHandPowers fromFirebrand and Thunderhand inOho Oasis'sFire andThunder Palace, though in the remake, they can only acquire them after defeatingMom Piranha inBeanbean International Airport and whenPrincess Peach arrives at theBeanbean Kingdom on her plane, where the Hammerhead Bros. will inform Mario and Luigi about them moving in the caverns of eastern Beanbean Fields after leaving Beanbean Castle.
Super Hammers allow the brothers to smashgray-colored rocks (chinked gray-colored rocks in the remake) in the overworld, one of which happens to be blocking the entrance toTeehee Valley, and another blocks the entrance to the first room of eastern Beanbean Fields' caverns, which allows the brothers to acquire theSecret Scroll 1 and learn theSwing Bros.Bros. Attack by playing aminigame hosted by aThwomp for 300coins. Similarly to the Super Hammers in thePaper Mario series, they are also stronger in battle, though the damage increase is not as significant.[1] In the original version, they increase the hammer attack's damage variance slightly.[2] The same goes for its succeeding upgrade, theUltra Hammer.
