Jeans de Fillet[1] are skeletalCheep Cheeps (albeit slightly larger than them) that live in both water andlava. They only appear in theYoshi's Island series, debuting inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and returning in its remakeYoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 and inYoshi's New Island.
Jeans de Fillet stick their heads out of the water or lava, thenjump out, knockingYoshi away if they touch him. Yoshi cannot eat them, but they can be defeated with anegg or another object thrown at them.
Jeans de Fillet are seldomly encountered inlevels. InSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Jeans de Fillet appear in two levels:The Impossible? Maze andTap-Tap The Red Nose's Fort. InYoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, they additionally appear in theEndless World of Yoshis stage.Yoshi's New Island features a Jean de Fillet boss,Furious Fred de Fillet, fought inFurious Fred de Fillet's Castle, where Jeans de Fillet are also encountered.
Their name comes from "fillet", a boneless cut of meat (usually fish). Their English name possibly references the 1986 French period dramaJean de Florette.
