Fire watermelons, also referred to asred watermelons[1][2] (alternativelyRed Watermelons) orFire Melons,[3] are items inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (andits reissue) andYoshi's New Island. If aYoshi eats one of these hot, fiery redwatermelons, he can shootfire thrice in the original game and five times inYoshi's New Island, and it can be used to defeat enemies, meltIce Blocks, and deal more damage than a regulargreen watermelon in theMini Battle calledWatermelon Seed Spitting Contest. InYoshi's New Island, red watermelons appear inHarry Hedgehog's Labyrinth andFire Watermelon Wonderland.
TheSuper Red Watermelon[4]Special Item is available inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island andYoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, and theAll-you-can-eat fire watermelon!Power Badge is available inYoshi's Woolly World. Using them automatically places a fire watermelon in a Yoshi's mouth, allowing him to have its ability at nearly any point. InYoshi's Island, using a Super Red Watermelon allows a Yoshi to spit fire nine times instead of the usual three.
InNintendo Puzzle Collection, fire, ice, and regular Watermelons cascade down the screen when a stage of Round 9 is cleared in the Action Mode ofYoshi no Cookie.
