Blackforest Plateau is the third area in theGame Boy andGame Boy Color gameDonkey Kong Land III. Located inDonkey Kong Country, to the north of thePrimate Plains and to the west of theGreat Ape Lakes, it replacesCotton Top Cove fromDonkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! as the third world in the game. This area is ruled by the gigantic spiderArich. The world's name is a pun onBlack Forest gateau, a type of cake originating from Germany.
Despite its name, Blackforest Plateau offers a wide variety of landscapes. The high western plateau is occupied by a lake, whose waters flow from the clifftops into the valley, creating alarge waterfall. This cascade feeds a river that meanders through the area. Because of their high latitude, the northern regions of Blackforest Plateau have a colder climate, and mostly consist of high mountain ranges,tundras andtaigas, planted with various conifers. A redwood forest appears in the eastern region.
